Champagne and Kittens ~ Out Now on 1320 Records

Filed Under: News by Sylvie — Comments Off
December 16, 2011

The perfect complement to the two best things ever is this new album, jointly released on Street Ritual and 1320 Records, by Oakland-based glitch-hop pioneer Knowa Knowone. Furry, fizzy and bubbly, with cute little sharp teeth – this gently savage beast might leave you drunk, bitten, or scratched. Silky smooth synth leads are tastefully woven between heavy, minimalistic rhythm parts and bangin’ beats. Spanning the spectrum of glitch and hip hop, with tasteful forays into funk, soul and latin rhythms, this is a confident tribute to life in the East Bay. And if you miss the point of it all, the subtleties of the delicate sparkling textures within – rest be assured that the meaty slabs of bass will slam against your head. Collaborations with some of California’s finest provide a hearty seasoning of the range of elements rampant in West Coast bass music. Fresh from a sold-out run on the Turkish wedding circuit, and rocking flip flops in Brazil, Knowa’s new EP is a tribute to hyphy hedonism and booty-shaking psychedelic crunk, in the consistently original style of one of the West Coast’s most innovative producers.

New Balkan Bass tune! Carpet Breaker by Adham Shaikh (Knowa Knowa’s UK Funky Remix)

Filed Under: News by knowa — Comments Off
April 18, 2011

CarpetBreaker Knowa Knowone RemixI’ve taken Adham’s original, Balkan/Gypsy tune from a housey meander into a full bass bounce; UK Funky style. Inspired by my trip to England and the Secret Garden Party, this is my tribute to the fun and quirky UK culture. Violins, flutes, accordions, drums and bass should make this the biggest bloody Balkan anthem of 2011.

Exclusive: Knowa Knowone Talks Critical Beats/His New Release and Saving the Amazon

This music is truly progressive, weaving indigenous Peruvian songs into modern electronic virtuosity. The result is intended to connect listeners to the hearts and prayers of indigenous Amazonians and inspire them to join the struggle to preserve our planet’s most precious ecological resource. Knowa’s trademark dirty basslines, hypnotic drum programming and swirling sound design surround a beautiful collage of natural sounds and human life. “Amazon Secrets” plays with elements of dark glitch, summertime dub and that unmistakable West Coast flavor; while “Girls Initiation” grinds on a slow, exotic vibe, with sparkling melodies and meticulously crafted breakbeats chopped up around an unrelenting, heavy low end.

Mr Roachclip

Mr. Roachclip is a man of wisdom, cultural diversity, and complex values. Based on his worldly travels he has influenced many, as shown in this diverse collection of tribute songs. Bay Area crunkologist, Knowa Knowone, provides the slick “2k remix” of ‘Mr Roachclip’ which includes some studio parts recorded by NYC’s Zebrakatz Mc and engineer Mike Dextro. Known for his work on Street Ritual and Muti Music, Knowa drops the tempo, with a grimey 70bpm bass heavy dubstep rendition layered with Zebrakatz’s blunted lyrics and vocoder tricknology.

Coming from the open plains of Fresno, California, house producer P-rez provides an acid-filled house remix, layered with psychedelic synths and serious dancefloor boogie.

BF label co-founder Scottie B who had the initial inspiration for this project, pounds the floor, with a deep techno composition with a driving minimal vibe.

ill-esha – Sullen Sultry (Knowa Knowone Remix)

Filed Under: News by knowa — Comments Off
January 12, 2011

Update: Soundcloud free downloads have run out. Get the tune for free here: http://music.knowaknowone.com/track/sullen-sultry-knowa-knowone-remix

Here it is, a hot free download to follow up the new Ill-Esha release on Street Ritual: Kitsch vs. Glitch.

ill-esha – Sullen Sultry (Knowa Knowone Remix) by Knowa

About the new Ill-Esha single:

Ill-esha - Kitsch vs. Glitch

Once upon a time in the Pacific Northwest, Miss ill-esha was meticulously crafting away, knitting together threads of jazz, ethnic and electronic music. Half a world away in Europe, Miss GiGi provoked the scene with her tantalizing mix of performance art and musical experimentation, creating visual projections in an array of costumes. One day this Queen of Kitsch descended from her starry cloud to encounter the glitchy soundscapes of ill-esha. Digging in her treasure chest for Kitsch Palace’s finest gems, ill-esha warped and wobbled to her heart’s content…

Elements from the resulting collaborations were originally featured on the electro-pop-influenced Kitsch Palace album, “Tales from the Wonderground”. Sliced with surgical precision by ill-esha’s glitched-out scalpel, both tracks find a fresh energy. The story of a reckless Mata Hari takes on a new groove with warm, heavy bass, uplifting pads and funked-out syncopation. Eurodance-influenced “Shiki Miki” is draped in loungey velvet, surrounded with lush harmonies and purple-tinged atmospheres. Both tunes feature ill-esha’s trademark R&B-laced melodies blended with a sassy splash of Kitsch.
